How Employers Can Create a Safe and Healthy Workplace

On Behalf of | Aug 20, 2021 | WC - Claim Process |

Workplace safety should never be taken lightly. No matter the size of the company or the field of work, employers have an ethical and legal obligation to provide a safe work environment for their employees.

From complying with OSHA regulations to conducting regular inspections, here are a few preventative measures that employers should take to foster safe workplaces:

Make Sure Employees Are Properly Trained

Workplace safety starts before the employee starts performing their job. Before beginning work, the organization must provide each worker with the proper instructions and training in a language that the worker can understand. This is especially important for high-risk jobs such as those in the construction or manufacturing industries.

Additionally, it’s important to foster a work environment that makes workers feel comfortable asking questions or asking for help when they are unsure of how to perform a task.

Provide Safety Equipment

In addition to providing workers with the training they need, it’s crucial to provide them with the physical equipment they need to perform their job safely. The tools or equipment provided should be well-maintained and regularly inspected for any signs of wear and tear. Faulty or malfunctioning equipment is one of the leading causes of work injury, especially for high-risk jobs.

Eliminate Potential Hazards

Hazards can present themselves in unexpected places. Employers must take all the steps necessary to mitigate any potential hazards that could jeopardize workers’ safety. Keep the workplace free of physical and chemical dangers that follow OSHA rules, regulations, and guidelines. Put up signs that warn employees of potential hazards if they cannot be taken out of the workplace completely.

Encourage workers to report any potential hazards that they identify so that the company can take steps to have the issues resolved as quickly as possible.
